Steven Kirwan (Claims Manager)

Career

Following the completion of my studies at UCD Law School in 1998, I began my career in the Insurance Industry with FBD Insurance. I spent two years with FBD Insurance, where I gained experience in private motor, commercial motor, property and liability insurances. After two years with FBD Insurance, I joined Marsh Ireland, where I spent a further two and half years working on group motor and property schemes for large multinational clients. In 2002, I moved to Hussey Fraser Solicitors, where I specialised in insurance litigation with a specific focus on motor accident related litigation. I joined Euro Insurances in 2008 as their Large Claims Manager and in 2009 I was promoted to the position of Claims Manager.

What I like about my job

Being responsible for the control of our claim handling suppliers in over twenty different countries, provides a huge amount of variety in my day to day role and offers exposure to a multitude of opportunities to gain experience of different markets and legal systems.

Challenges

As a ‘Freedom of Services’ Insurance Company we outsource our claim handling activities to various suppliers in each of the territories where we provide insurance cover. The management and control of this network has always been a challenge and our claims team have consistently managed to meet its targets with respect to the review and control of these suppliers.

With the advent of Solvency II and to further meet our regulatory requirements, we are currently restructuring our overall review approach to further increase the control of our suppliers and gain a better understanding of our risks and exposures.

What I like about Euro Insurances

The people! I am very fortunate to work closely with people from various cultures and disciplines. There is a good team ethos in the company and Euro Insurances has always supported and built on that through social events and the company trips.
